Graphic Design

Not so long ago, the discipline of Graphic Design focused mainly on print items, for example, posters, books, forms, annual reports and magazines. These days, graphic designers play an important role throughout the entire communication process and, of course, use digital media. They are involved in the development of communication plans, they advise their clients on the choice of media and identity with precise control of visuals and the media they use. You can see their work on the facades of offices and shops, in newspapers and magazines, on posters, advertising boards, websites, television, clothes and mobile telephones. Designers are jacks-of-all-trades and are able to apply texts and images to give meaning to printed information, information displayed in public spaces and in their clients' on-screen communication.

You will design letter fonts, take photographs, build websites and incorporate moving images in your products. You will design logos, draw, create 3D designs for exhibitions and trade fairs. You will learn to analyse, order and create visual databanks. You will learn how to manage or simply to work in a creative team. You know the most important examples of graphic art in recent history. You draw inspiration by visual artists, film-makers, designers, thinkers and writers. You are completely familiar with the business context in which you have to operate. You have mastered marketing principles and apply them in commercial communication projects. You approach the design profession and the social framework in which your designs will function with an attitude of constructive criticism. As a designer, you always ask the questions that matter.

Sometimes, you will work as a member of a design team, and your designs will have to be completely in line with and reflect your client's corporate identity. In some situations, you as a designer, may initiate communicative projects by yourself. In that case, you act more autonomously, as a fine artist would. Your designs will always be expected to make a statement and create a look that can only be obtained with an artistic attitude and work method.
