In our daily lives, we are surrounded by moving images in the form of television productions, websites, video clips & video art, documentaries, commercials and short fictional films, for example in games.
AV is a popular mass medium that constantly develops and adapts to new forms, and has a growing sphere of influence.
Audiovisual media play a dominant role in the provision of information, education and entertainment as well as in the documentation and recording of developments in society. There is a growing interaction with other arts in which audiovisual imagery is sometimes used as an autonomous form of artistic expression, but also as a key feature of, for example, theatre performances and music events.
The Bachelor course Audiovisual Design will teach you how to make autonomous AV productions. You will work on documentaries, reports, assignment films, short fictional films, on-screen designs such as leaders, bumpers, station calls, music clips, VJ projects, (interactive) video systems, digital projects such as DVDs or video applications for the Internet.
During your study, you will focus on artistic-content aspects, which will help you analyse your assignments and develop personal, original concepts. Gradually, you will also become familiar with the technical side of this subject area. You will learn to work with ease with modern equipment and obtain insight into the effectiveness of video imagery and sound in communication projects. You will learn how to put your message across.
Within the course, there is also room to study relationships with related disciplines such as Animation and Digital Photography. You will also work with interactive multimedia in WdKA’s CrossLab.
You can specialise with a minor in the third year and deepen your knowledge of this field of study during the project weeks (IFFR; World Wide Video Festival).
You can gain international experience by taking part in the exchange programme and studying, for example, in Berlin, Vancouver or at one of WdKA's eighty partner institutions around the world. And of course in Semester 7, you will do a work placement with an interesting AV production company.
